I am offically a 4th grade teacher...

Well, it's over. My very first day of school. And it was fabulous! My kids were great, the day went smoothly, and it was just fun. I LOVE finally having a classroom of my own, with no one to impress or ask things to. There is such a freedom in my own classroom. I enjoyed it so much at the end of the day I thought -- I get paid to do this? I know things will change (or maybe not) as time goes on, but it was a great day. When I went down to meet the kids on the playground before school started a little guy came up to me with a red Indiana University t-shirt on. I smiled and asked what class me was in and he said, "Yours!" I had met his mom earlier in the week, and she was from Columbus Indiana, so she knew I would appreciate him wearing a t-shirt from the best college in the world on the first day of school.

It was so nice being in a christian school. Shane and Shane were playing when they walked in and did their morning work, and the I played Shawn McDonald later in the day when they were drawing self portraits. These 4th graders are really great, and so independent. I read Despereaux (a novel about a mouse) to them, and they just ate up every word that I read off of the page. They really are brilliant little guys, and I know they will keep me on my toes. At the end of the day there was a letter in the mail box on my desk from a new little girls that said, "I love your teaching, you are the best teacher in the world." It's a little early to judge that, but it made me smile. I asked her how her day was going, and she said good -- I got the teacher that I wanted. God was so good to me today, and it was a blessing to have this as my job, and be in the position where I can pray with my kids and talk to them freely about the Jesus I love.

The flowers in this picture are from the flower market that I went to with Kate yesterday. Each bundle is about a dollar! They have everything and they are all so beautiful!

Thank you for praying for my first day... it was a real blessing.
