I ran a race!

For those of you who know me well, know that I do not have much athletic ability... I mean seriously I have never had a number, ever. No pee-wee soccer, softball (okay I went to one softball practice when I was 8, and wore white jean shorts, so I have been to once sports practice in my life) or any sort of sport that gives you a number. Until yesterday -- I ran a 5K (okay almost ran the entire thing walked from 3.1-3.5, it was hot okay?) and got the number 640 pinned to my shirt! Some of you are probably thinking, big deal -- so what, but really -- this is huge! Katie ran it with me and we came across the finish line 31 minutes later. I can't tell you how good it feels to accomplish something, to complete a race! One of my goals in life is to complete a mini-marathon -- so I figured I needed to start small and build up to that. The run was to support the people of Burma, who have to run for their lives -- daily. To learn more about the displaced people in Burma you can go to http://www.freeburmarangers.org/.

I am learning that being over has changed me not just spiritually, and mentally -- but also physically and the things I have gotten to do, that I never knew I would enjoy before. I am now an enjoyment reader (there are some seriously good books out there, I am currently reading The Time Traveler's Wife thanks to Matt Cameron, the English teacher across the hall), I ran a race, I drive a motorbike, I make travel plans, I am a teacher -- it's pretty neat to be stripped from your comfortable place and have a chance to look at your life again and learn and develop and change, in ways you never knew possible.

Well, its been 7 1/2 months, 3/4 of a school year and life is good here. I am excited to get some long over due hugs soon...
