Knowing that it was going to be a long weekend, thanks to Vasha Buchka Day, a few of my friends thought it would be really fun to go camping this weekend. After e-mails back and forth, and the rain due to good ol’ rainy season, we decided that we wouldn’t go. Until last minute on Sunday – we decide to go. The girls in my bible study went – Brooke, Staci, Kelly and Kelsey and then some guy friends came along as well. We ended up packing the 10 of us into Kelly’s Texas truck and a little Toyota corolla and ventured up and partially over the mountain in town. After tiny muddy roads that switch-backed all the way up the mountain we ended up at this little cabin on this coffee farm on the back side of Doi Sutep. It was gorgeous. Just being up in the green jungle, away from the pollution and heat was so refreshing. We didn’t do a whole lot, other than laughing and talking for 8 hours on the front porch of this little Thai cabin. It was just so fun to be around a great group of Christians where there was constantly a guitar playing in the background.
At 9:30 the power shut off so we lit a bunch of little white candles all over the porch – which provided much entertainment. (And this is what pictures look like when you have a professional photographer along with you -- I take no credit for this picture my hand is just in it) We even had some US marshmallows and roasted them over a little fire and made s’mores using some waffle crackers – which we decided are better than graham crackers in the states.
We decided that we weren’t exactly camping – but more so “cabining” which we thought was pretty clever. I found out one of the guys we were with used to do music for a YL club, and it was really fun finding someone who loves that ministry just as much as I do.
We woke up and had some fresh coffee that has been grown on the land we were staying on and “hiked” if you could call it that around the place. We headed home and only got almost stuck once and took some pictures on the way down.
I am so blessed with such amazing God-fearing friends here who just love to do fun, normal things here in Thailand.
