No, were not married, and still have 164 days to go. But, I spent the past 10 days just amazed at how this man chooses to love me. I started to realize it when I got my first major job rejection. I made it to the final two, with all sorts of references at a French international school a mile from where I would be living in Chicago. All of my eggs were in one basket with this full time job opportunity -- and I thought I had it all ready to wrap it up and put my name on it... wrong. I got rejected. But, what did Raef do, he didn't flinch, he said, "Sara, I desire to take care of you and provide for us." And here is a list of things that happened over the past week that made me feel so loved:
1. He found a perfect apartment for us to make our home. He searched, walked, made appointments, and found the most perfect place for us. It's a safe place, and had everything we were looking for. He found it for me, for us.
2. He works 40+ hours a week, to provide for us. He does his job well, and does it right, putting in extra time regardless of who sees it. And, he doesn't expect me to get a job and desires for me to do something where I can use the gifts the Lord has given me. No hidden agenda, he wants to provide for us.
3. He sleeps in uncomfortable places. Over the past year, Raef and I have not stayed in the same bed, and he hunts out places to stay. He always gives me the comfortable bed, the safest place, while he finds couches, takes long public transits home, makes awkward phone calls to people to see if he can stay. He puts me to bed, and then finds something to sleep on. Never complains.
4. He thanks me for little things. I ironed shirts, or made dinner -- and he thanks me. He values the things I do.
5. He drove and filled my car up with gas. When I got to my car this morning to leave, it was filled up, so I didn't have to do it on my way home. Plus he drives when we are together, I hate driving.
6. He carries my bag when it is too heavy. Whether it be a computer, or beach supplies -- he carries it.
7. He does special things for me. He figured out how to make sushi for our anniversary. We had the fun task of doing it together. Then he thought I needed to see this new city I was moving too, and took me to the top of the John Hancock building for dessert.
8. He walks next to the street, and checks all of the doors before he leaves me, to make sure they are locked. He wants to make sure I am safe. He takes me on safer routes when we walk, because it wants to keep me from harm.
9. He answers the phone when I call. No matter if he is busy, or doing something else, he makes time for my needs.
10. He tells me he loves me, and is proud to have me on his arm. Which when he tells me he loves me, I respond with, "I know." Because all of his actions have shown me that.
I love that man, and I can't wait to be his wife.
